Validating an email is only half the battle. Email deliverability—getting your emails into inboxes, not spam folders—depends on sender reputation, authentication protocols, and list hygiene.
Sender Reputation
Email providers assign reputation scores to sending domains and IPs based on historical behavior. High bounce rates (>5%), spam complaints, and sending to invalid addresses damage your reputation. Once damaged, even valid emails may be filtered to spam. Maintaining a clean email list (removing invalids) is critical for reputation. Warm up new sending domains gradually rather than sending huge volumes immediately.
SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
These three protocols authenticate email senders. SPF (Sender Policy Framework) lists which IPs can send for your domain. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a cryptographic signature to emails. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication) tells receivers what to do with unauthenticated emails. All three should be configured correctly. Validation APIs can check if a domain has proper authentication set up.
Bounce Rate Management
Bounce rates above 2% indicate list quality issues. Hard bounces (mailbox doesn't exist) should be removed immediately. Soft bounces (temporary issues like full inbox) can be retried. Email validation before sending reduces bounce rates to <1%. This protects sender reputation and saves money on wasted sends.
